Avril Won't Back Down
Avril rehashed the spitting incident of September in a recent interview with W magazine. She still stands by what she did and basically says she's not going to compromise on her dislike for the paparazzi just because she got some bad press for it. Avril added, "I've been [spitting] the whole time I've lived in L.A. ... And that one time it turned into this big story. It's like they just needed a story at the time because Tom Cruise wasn't getting married that week."

Avril Lavigne isn't making any apologies for spitting instead of saying cheese. Nope, none at all.
In the coming-soon March issue of W, the Canadian makes like the fourth Dixie Chick and tells the mag that she really isn't ready to make nice with the paparazzi.
She's referring to the spit decision she made last fall when she lobbed some expletives and some wet ones at photographers outside of Los Angeles hot spot Hyde. Lavigne says that she wouldn't have had it any other way.
Lavigne's spit is the hottest thing since Tom Cruise got married. Make no mistake, kids: She's no angel like Paris Hilton.

"I've been doing that the whole time I've lived in L.A." she informs us ("almost proudly," adds the magazine).
"And that one time," she continues, "it turned into this big story. It's like they just needed a story at the time because Tom Cruise wasn't getting married that week."
Then, while venting about the tabloids some more, she makes a not-veiled reference to the famous ex-girlfriend of her husband Deryck Whibley: "The paparazzi want me to wave and be like, 'Hi,' like Paris Hilton does."
She adds: "A lot of the girls love--love -- the paparazzi. It's, like, the only reason they're famous."
Oh, Avril, tell us some more! Indeed, the former "reigning teen of punk," who now gives it up for Chanel, happens to do just that.
